John Newman

Director of Trading & Regulation, Energia

John is responsible for Front Office, Middle Office, Price Forecasting, Retail Customer Pricing and Regulation at Energia. John has a range of experience in the gas and electricity industry having previously spent eight years with Northern Electric holding a variety of roles including Electricity Trading Manager.

Whilst at Northern Electric, John led both gas and electricity trading teams through significant market changes when the Transco Network Code was introduced in 1996 and subsequently the transition from the England & Wales Electricity Pool to NETA in 2001.

He joined Energia in 2002 to design the trading function prior to the commissioning of Energia’s first gas fired power station. Whilst at Energia, John led the trading team through the transition to the Single Electricity Market in 2007 and in 2012 headed-up a successful legal challenge to overturn a regulatory decision relating to the treatment of the Carbon Revenue Levy in the SEM.

John has an honours degree in Mathematics from the University of Northumbria.
