EAI welcomes the opportunity to respond to the consultation on policy options for Northern Ireland’s new Energy Strategy. Northern Ireland is facing a number of environmental challenges, such as decarbonising its economy, preserving biodiversity, and providing clean air and water to its citizens. Climate action is crucial to preserve and improve the natural and physical environment in Northern Ireland and increase the standard of living for its citizens.
The new Energy Strategy and upcoming Climate Change Bill provide an opportunity to address current policy gaps and outline a clear trajectory for energy policy in the coming decade, with a stronger emphasis on climate action across the economy.
Our response to this consultation will focus on the potential for the parallel electrification and decarbonisation of Northern Ireland’s economy and the opportunities presented by pursuing a coordinated approach across the all-island market and system.
