The Electricity Association of Ireland welcomes the opportunity to respond to the NI Department for the Economy consultation on establishing a NI Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). Similar schemes in other jurisdictions have been shown to incentivise further development in the renewable energy sector. The creation of a NI RESS would address the issue of capital being diverted away from Northern Ireland to areas where such schemes are already in place and it is a critical pillar to deliver Northern Ireland’s 80% renewable electricity target as set out in the 2022 Climate Act.
