The EAI welcomes the opportunity to respond to the consultation on Ireland’s Hydrogen Strategy.
This response submitted on the 2nd of September 2022 illustrates the importance of hydrogen within the Irish energy system and the economy. Recognising the need for hydrogen to support wind and solar generation, as well as decarbonising hard to abate sectors is key to achieving net zero targets in the future.
This response also focused on security of supply and the role of hydrogen in allowing Ireland to produce an indigenous fuel source with potential across heat, transport and electrification. To achieve this the inclusion of hydrogen into the market and regulatory framework needs to begin now as Ireland have trailed behind other EU countries in developing a hydrogen.
